I really love this Pastel Peaks crochet baby blanket when I started to crochet it. The reasons why I love it is the stitch pattern I used for the blanket.

And this is my first time working with Lion Brand Ice cream yarn. It’s so soft and self-striping, acrylic, 3 lightweight yarn. I want to make more designs with Ice cream. 😀

There are 8 colorways of Lion Brand Ice Cream yarn to select. But my eyes coughed up Pastel colors in cotton candy.

More about the pattern

You can make this blanket with 2 skeins of Lion Brand Ice Cream yarn. This sample blanket measures 24″x 24″. The pattern can be adjusted to any size lovey to king size.

Skill level easy

Finished size 

  • 24 x 24 with border (pattern can be adjusted to any size)

Materials (I used)

3 -lightweight / 100% Acrylic yarn

  • 2 skein of (affiliate link) >> Lion Brand Ice Cream – Cotton Candy
  • I used a small amount of white and purple leftover yarns to make the border (You can use same yarn used for the blanket. It’s your choice)
  • 5 mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends.


Gauge 16 sc x 20 rows = 4″ with 5 mm crochet hook.

Abbreviations/stitches

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single stitch
  • dc = double crochet
  • bpdc = back post double crochet
  • fpdc = front post double crochet
  • st = stitch
  • sk = skip
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • ch-sp = chain space
  • * to = repeat * to ; the instructions

Special stitches

  • 3-dc shell stitch = 3 dc in indicated st.
  • (2 dc, bpdc) shell st  = first you should crochet 2 dc in indicated st and then make a bpdc around the same indicated st.
  • (fpdc, 2 dc) shell st =  first you should crochet fpdc around indicated st and then make 2 dc in same indicated st.

Note

  • The pattern can be adjusted to any size by crocheting multiple of 4+3 foundation chains.

Crochet multiple of 4+3.

4 x 24) + 3 = 99 chains for this blanket.

Row 1: dc in third ch from hook, sk next st, *3-dc shell in next st, ch 1, sk next 3 sts; repeat* to across until last 2 ch remain, do not crochet ch 1 after last 3-dc shell, sk next st, dc in last st, turn. (24 (3-dc shell) total)

Row 2: ch 2, dc in first st, ch 1, sk next 2 dc, *(2 dc, bpdc) shell in next dc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp and 2 dc; repeat * to across until last 4 dc remain, crochet ch 1 after last shell, sk next ch-1 sp and 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last dc, turn. (23 (2 dc, bpdc) shell sts)

Row 3: ch 2, dc in first dc and next dc, ch 1, sk next dc and ch-1 sp, (fpdc, 2 dc) shell in next bpdc, * ch 1, sk next 2 dc and ch-1 sp, (fpdc, 2 dc) shell in next bpdc; repeat * to across until last (2 dc,ch-1 sp,dc) remain, crochet ch 1 after last shell, 2 dc in last dc, turn. Row 6: ch 2, dc in first dc, ch 1, sk next 2 dc, *(2 dc, bpdc) shell in next fpdc, ch 1, sk next ch-1 sp and 2 dc; repeat * to across until last ch-1 and 4 dc remain, crochet ch 1 after last shell, sk next ch-1 and 2 dc, 2 dc in next dc, dc in last dc, turn. (23 (2 dc, bpdc) shell sts)

Rows 7 to 46: repeat rows 3 to 6 continuously. Fasten off and weave the ends.

Border:

(Work in round, do not turn, sl st to first st at the end of each round)

Round 1: (with purple)

  • Crochet 3 sc in each ch-3 sp and 1 sc in each ch-1 sp of foundation chains side of the blanket.
  • Crochet sc in each dc and bpdc/fpdc of the opposite side (last row) of the blanket, sk ch-1 spaces between shell sts on that side.
  • When you start crocheting on sides of the blanket, work 2 sc in 1 side-dc, however, if it going to be tighter, you can add extra st in after 2 or 3 sts.
  • And don’t forget to crochet 3 sc in each corner st.

Round 2: (with white) ch 1, sc in each st around except 4 corner sts, 3 sc in each corner sts, sl st to first st.

Round 3 and 4: repeat round 2. Fasten off and weave the ends.
