  • Beginner friendly with
  • One row repeat.

The first 3 rows are fully described to easily understand for beginners to crochet. Once you finish the row 3 you can memorise and increase the pattern to get your desired length. 

You can use any lightweight yarns for this pattern

I used 2 colors to make stripes. Self-striping yarn, also known as the variegated yarns would also great for this shawl. are a great choice for crocheting without color changing. The whole pattern uses crochet V stitch as a main stitch.

Crochet V Stitch Triangle Shawl Free Pattern

Skill Level: Easy

Finished sizes:

  • Width = 57″ without tassels
  • Length = 30″ without tassels

Materials:

You can use any lightweight yarns for this pattern. 

  • 2-Fine / sport / Acrylic in 2 colors. I used 2 skeins of Lion Brand Vanna’s Glamour yarn – Topaz and white color yarn about 300 yards. (Approx: 800 yards in total)
  • US 7 / 4.5mm crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends
  • Scissors

Gauge is not very important for this project.

Abbreviations / special stitches

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • V-st = (dc, ch 1,dc) in indicated st. 
  • ch-sp = chain- (number of chains) space
  • st = stitch
  • beg = beginning
  • [ ] work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
  • * to ; = work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
  • C1 = color 1
  • C2 = color 2

Notes: I used 2 colors to make stripes.

chain 5, sl st to the first chain. 
Row 1: chain 4 (count as dc and ch 1), V-st into the ring, ch 3, V-st into the ring again, ch 1, dc into the same ring.

Row 2: ch 3 (count as dc), turn, dc in first ch-1sp, ch 1, V-st in same ch-1sp, ch 1, sk next V-st, (V-st, ch 3, V-st) in next ch-3 sp (center ch-sp), ch 1, sk next V-st, V-st in last ch-1sp, ch 1, dc in same space, dc in beg ch 3 top. 

Row 3: ch 3 (count as dc), turn, dc in next dc, ch 1, V-st in next ch-1sp, ch 1, sk next V-st, V-st in next ch-1sp, ch 1, (V-st, ch 3,V-st) in next ch-3 sp (center ch-sp), *ch 1, sk next V-st, V-st in next ch-1sp; repeat * until last ch-sp, after crocheting ch 1 in repeat section, dc in next dc and in beg ch 3 top. 

Row 4: ch 3 (count as dc), turn, dc in next dc, ch 1, V-st in next ch-1sp, *ch 1, sk next V-st, V-st in next ch-1sp; repeat * until ch-3sp remains, after crocheting ch 1 in repeat section, (V-st, ch 3,V-st) in next ch-3 sp (center ch-sp), *ch 1, sk next V-st, V-st in next ch-1sp; repeat * until last ch-sp, after crocheting ch 1 in repeat section, dc in next dc and in beg ch 3 top. 

Row 5 to 51: repeat row 4. Continue repeating row 4 until you reach your desired length for the shawl.

If you like, add tassels to the each corners.

To make same stripes in my shawl follow the color scheme
  • Row 1 to 21: color 1
  • Row 22 to 25: color
  • Row 26 to 29: color 1
  • Row 30 and 31: color 2
  • Row 32 to 37: color 1
  • Row 38 and 39: color 2
  • Row 40 to 42: color 1
  • Row 43 to 51: color 2
