Crochet Double Layered Basket Pattern by Crochet For You

Crochet baskets are ECO-friendly and perfect for organizing desktop. This little basket made in 1 cake of Ice Yarn Cakes Air. I really really love it because the pattern uses only single crochet stitch. I made double layers for the wall. The bast part is this basket can be made in any size you want, see the notes section.
Special thanks to Ice Yarns for providing me this lovely yarn for this project.

About the yarn:
For this basket pattern, I used Ice yarn Cakes Air. This yarn #5 Bulky: Chunky, Craft, Rug. This is a chained yarn you can use for many crochet projects for home. I think it is great for thick and sturdy crochet projects like rugs, baskets and of course for tote bags. This unique yarn comes in self-striping. You can see lots of beautiful colorways (currently they have 20 colors). The 1 pack contains 2 cakes so you can make 2 baskets for your need. Check out these yarns on their website.

Skill Level: Easy

Finished size: 7.5″ wide x 3″ tall

Materials

  • Ice Yarn Cakes Air (White, Teal, Khaki, Beige ) – #5-Bulky weight / Chunkey / 50% Acrylic, 50% Polyamide / 196 total yards. (I used 1 cake for this)
  • H-8, 5mm crochet hook

Gauge: 16 sc x 17 rows = (4” x 4”) with H-8, 5mm crochet hook.

Notes: For larger/smaller basket
if you know how to increase crochet flat circle, you can make a base of the basket as your desired diameter with single crochet. Then you can continue the rounds without increasing to make the basket wall and don’t forget to double the height of the basket to fold the basket wall to make it double layered.

Round 17: ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to the first st. (90 sts) Do not fasten off or cut the yarn. we are going to attach the top round to the unworked (front) loops on round 16.

Round 18 to 37: repeat round 17.

Attach the top round to the unworked (front) loops on round 16.
Drop the loop off from the hook. You need to fold the basket wall in half outside until the last round 37 of the basket meet the front loop sts of round 16. Turn the basket upside down.

Insert the hook in front loop of the round 16 near to the loop (you dropped off). And insert the loop you dropped off (photo 1 below). pull the working loop through the front loop in round 16 (photo 2 below).

ch 1, crochet sc inserting the hook top loops of the last round 37 and in the same (front) loop of round 16 together (photo 3 below).

Make next sc inserting the hook in the both. (round 37 and round 16)

Crochet sc in each st around to make a nice edge for the bottom.
