Last couple of weeks I enjoyed making mushrooms. They are fun and easy project can be made in less than hour. These mushrooms are not very realistic but I think they are too cute to crochet with white bobbles.

Different sizes from the same pattern

Mushrooms seem lovely with various sizes and colors. So I played with yarns and colors and made 3 sizes of mushrooms using 3 different weights of yarn.

Skill Level Intermediate

Finished sizes:

  • Small: about 3.25″ tall
  • Medium: about 4.25″ tall
  • Large: about 5.5″ tall

Materials
Small mushroom:

  • 2-Fine weight / Sport / in 2 colors (Gray and white: Approx: 50 yards from each)
  • US E-4 (3.5mm) crochet hook

Medium mushroom:

  • 3-Light weight / DK / in 2 colors (Orange and white: Approx: 50 yards from each)
  • US G-6 (4mm) crochet hook

Large mushroom:

  • 4-Medium weight / Worsted / in 2 colors (red and white: Approx: 50 yards from each)
  • US I-9 (5.5mm) crochet hook

For all sizes

  • fiberfill
  • Tapestry needle for weaving ends.

Gauge is not very important for this project

Abbreviations/special stitches (US term)

  • ch = chain
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • sc = single crochet
  • hdc = half double crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • hdc inc = 2 hdc in one st
  • sc inc = 2 sc in one st
  • sc dec = crochet 2 sc together (Insert the hook and draw up a loop in each of 2 stitches, yarn over, pull back through all 3 loops on hook at once)
  • st = stitch
  • yo = yarn over
  • beg = beginning
  • *to; = repeat * to the instructions.
  • [ ] = work instructions within brackets as many times as directed
    Special stitches
  • 4-dc popcorn st = crochet 4 dc in indicated st, drop the loop from the hook, insert the hook from front to back under the top 2 loops of the first double crochet of 4 dc, grab the dropped loop with the hook and pull back through the stitch, ch 1 to close the stitch.

Crochet Mushroom Free Pattern

Top of the mushroom

Round 1: with (C1), 10 hdc into the adjustable ring, sl st to the first st. (10 hdc) 
Round 2: with (C1), 2 hdc inc around, sl st to the first st. (20 sts)
Round 3: [with (C1) hdc Inc, 1 hdc, hdc Inc, with (C2) 4-dc Bobble in next st] 5 times, after crocheting the last bobble in repeat section, sl st to the first st with (C1). (25 hdc/5 Bobble) Do not cut the (C1) yarn. Carry on yarn when it needs.
Round 4: with (C1) [hdc Inc, hdc in each of next 2 st] 10 times, sl st to the first st. (40 sts) 
Round 5: with (C1), hdc in each of next 4 st, [with (C2) 4-dc Bobble in next st, with (C1) hdc in each of next 7 st] 4 times, hdc in each of next 3 st, sl st to the first st. (35 hdc/5 Bobble) Do not cut the yarn. Carry on yarn when it needs.
Round 6: with (C1), hdc in each st around, sl st to the first st. (40 sts)
Round 7: with (C1), crochet only front loop, sc in front loop of  each st around, sl st to the first st. (40 sts) Cut the (C1) yarn and continue next rounds with (C2)

Notes

  • Do not join after each round.
  • Always attach the stitch markers on the first st in each round.

Round 8: with (C2), crochet only back loop, sc in back loop of each st around. (40 sts) 
Round 9: [sc in each of next 3 st, sc dec] 8 times. (32 sts) 
Round 10: sc in each st around. (32 sts) 
Round 11: [sc in each of next 2 st, sc dec] 8 times. (24 sts) 
Round 12: sc in each st around. (24 sts) Start adding fiberfill firmly
Round 13: [1sc, sc dec] 8 times. (16 sts)

Round 13: [sc dec] 8 times. (8 sts) 

Crochet Mushroom Free Pattern

Assembly

Sew the two pieces together with the tapestry needle and yarn tail. I sew 2 rounds to make the joining more secure and not to bend.
