Block Stitch Bun Hat Pattern by Crochet For You.

With the block stitch crochet pattern, I made my first bun hat. I had some Red Heart Super Saver yarns in 2 colors after making Crystal Drops beanie and boot cuffs. You can use any worsted weight yarns in 2 colors to make this bun hat. 🙂

It starts with FDC? Don’t I have to make a chain first? Thanks.

FDC means foundation double crochet. It’s an alternative way to start crochet projects without making chains first. If you want to start with crocheting chains, start with 75 chains and sl to first ch.For round 1, ch 3, dc in first st and each of next st around, sl st to first dc.

I absolutely loved making this hat could you possibly tell me how to finish it into a regular beanie too. I would be very grateful. Thanks Debbie

Hi Debra, So glad you like it. 😀 You can decrease the pattern with dc2tog like round 15 until you reach few stitches on the top to close the top of the hat. Please understand that I can’t explain the whole pattern here, so maybe I will try to make a new post with the pattern for Block Stitch beanie in the future. Thank you so much!

This turned out HUGE. Followed pattern exactly Using a I hook. The brim was 60 inches around and I crochet tight. Went down to a H hook and I think it will still be to big. I am adjusting it to fit properly.

Hi Jan, What yarn did you use? Or you may crochet more loosely than me. But oh.. 60 inches around? It is too big that can’t imagine. As you said you should drop the hook size and also start with foundation chains instead of Fdc. Crochet 75, sl st to first ch. And ch 1, dc in first st and each st across to finish round 1, and sl st to first st.
